Common Questions About Incontinence Supplies, Answered

Common questions about incontinence supplies
If you have been quietly searching for adult diapers, pull-ons, pads, or insurance coverage, you are not alone.
Incontinence is common. It can happen after surgery, with age, after pregnancy, with diabetes, with neurological conditions, or when mobility changes. It is not a personal failure. It is a medical issue that can usually be managed with the right supplies and support.
Equipment prescribed for a NY claim?
Send the referral and the Brooklyn desk reviews it the next business day during business hours. Prescription required.

Start with mobility and leakage level.
- Pull-ons are best when the person can stand, step in, and wants something that feels more like regular underwear.
- Tab-style briefs are best for heavier leakage, overnight use, or caregiver-assisted changes.
- Bladder pads and guards are best for light leakage inside regular underwear.
- Underpads protect beds, chairs, and couches.
- Wipes, cleansers, gloves, and barrier creams protect skin during changes.
It is normal to try more than one product before the right routine is clear.
I do not know what size to order
Measure waist at the navel and hips at the widest point. Use the larger number on the size chart.
If leaks happen at the legs, the size may be wrong even if the absorbency is high. If the product bunches or slides, it may be too large.
I am worried people will notice
Most modern products are thinner, quieter, and better at odor control than older adult diapers. The right fit is what makes them discreet. A bulky product in the wrong size is more noticeable than a slimmer product that fits correctly.
My skin is getting irritated
Skin care matters as much as absorbency. Change promptly, clean gently, pat dry, and use a thin layer of barrier cream. Choose breathable products when possible.
Call a clinician if redness does not improve, if skin opens, or if there is pain, odor, fever, or discharge.
Does insurance cover this in New York
New York Medicaid may cover incontinence supplies when there is a documented medical need. Original Medicare usually does not cover disposable supplies. Some Medicare Advantage and managed plans may offer benefits, but the rules vary.
The usual requirements are a diagnosis, prescription, supply type, monthly quantity, and periodic renewal.
