Medicare and Medicaid for DME: What Each One Covers

Medicare and Medicaid for DME
Medicare Part B covers durable medical equipment that can be used in the home and is expected to last three or more years. Walkers, hospital beds, oxygen, CPAP, wheelchairs.
It does not cover adult diapers. It does not cover most disposable supplies.
Medicaid is different. Many state Medicaid programs cover adult incontinence supplies, including New York. The benefit usually runs through a managed care plan with monthly limits and prior authorization.
Equipment prescribed for a NY claim?
Send the referral and the Brooklyn desk reviews it the next business day during business hours. Prescription required.
Send a DME ReferralHow to know what your plan covers
Call the number on the back of the insurance card. Ask one question: "Does my plan cover incontinence supplies, and if yes, what is my monthly limit?" Write down the answer.
If the answer is yes, ask what documentation they need. Most plans ask for a diagnosis, a prescription, and sometimes a Letter of Medical Necessity.

What we do for you
If your plan covers supplies and we're in-network, we bill it. If we're out-of-network, we provide the receipt and product codes you need to submit for reimbursement. Either way, we help you understand the answer before you commit to monthly cases.
